Our recent research found that Arkansas women’s labor force participation is 53%, compared with a national average of 58%. In Central Arkansas, women’s participation is the highest at 56%. Even though Arkansas women are making up over half the labor force, they are still earning less than men. White women in Arkansas make 78 cents on the dollar, Asian women make 74 cents, African American women make 66 cents and Latino/Hispanic women make almost half of what their white male counterparts make at 53 cents on the dollar.

We saw these statistics and knew we could and must do better for Arkansas women so we worked with a team of practicum students from The Clinton School of Public Service during the 2017-2018 school year to create the Gender Equity Scorecard, a tool to help Arkansas businesses improve gender equity in the workplace. The Scorecard is designed to be taken by a senior level executive and/or an HR Director to gauge the current status of gender equity in their company’s workplace.

We are currently recruiting companies to take the assessment as part of our cohort of Beta testers as we continue to work to improve and perfect this tool. If your company is interested in being part of this cohort please email rbuttry@womensfoundationarkansas.org for a more information and a copy of the Gender Equity Scorecard.
